    In March 2017, Officer Ernest Edward Cox, a 15-year veteran of the Rome Police Department, was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, bribery, violation of oath of office, and tampering with evidence. Cox provided sensitive law enforcement information to assist a marijuana trafficking organization. He was terminated from the department and faced up to 55 years in prison upon conviction.
