Former Chief of Police Mark Rinaldo was accused of engaging in inappropriate and unprofessional behavior between June 2018 and October 2019. Allegations included walking around the police gym and locker room with minimal clothing, leaving the locker room door open, singing vulgar songs, and hugging and kissing a subordinate on the neck while expressing ‘I love you.’ These actions led to his suspension and subsequent retirement with a $115,000 severance package on January 1, 2020. The town of Avon initially withheld the misconduct log detailing these incidents, leading to a prolonged legal battle that concluded with the document’s release in April 2024.
