In 2018, Officer Jeremy Layman was terminated for making racially insensitive social media posts, including wearing a ‘Baby Daddy Removal Team’ t-shirt and commenting that residents of Peoria’s South Side were ‘entitled thieves.’ An arbitrator later ordered his reinstatement, a decision upheld by the appellate court in 2022, stating the comments were inappropriate but not overtly racist.
