Steven Sanchez – Indianapolis Police Department

In April 2022, Officer Steven Sanchez was involved in the response to a 911 call concerning Herman Whitfield III, who was experiencing a mental health crisis. Sanchez, along with other officers, attempted to restrain Whitfield, who was unarmed and naked. During the incident, Sanchez deployed a Taser on Whitfield, and officers held him face down while handcuffing him. Whitfield became unresponsive and was later pronounced dead. The death was ruled a homicide by the Marion County Coroner’s Office. Sanchez was indicted on charges including involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide. In December 2024, he was acquitted of all charges. A civil lawsuit filed by Whitfield’s family against Sanchez and other officers is pending.

Important Community Guidelines

It is strictly against our rules to:

  • Make threats of any kind
  • Share private information such as personal emails, home addresses, or phone numbers

Violation of these rules will result in immediate content removal and possible account suspension.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
