On July 20, 2019, Officer Gorny was driving approximately 90 mph while responding to a reckless driver call. He ran a red light and collided with Erica Flores’ vehicle, resulting in her death. Gorny intermittently used his lights and siren prior to the crash. A grand jury declined to indict him, but Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski recommended his termination.
