Disciplinary Actions Overview – DC Police Department

Between October 2015 and March 2021, MPD was compelled to rehire 37 officers previously terminated for misconduct, resulting in $14.3 million in back pay. These officers had been dismissed for offenses including drunk driving and sexual abuse. The D.C. Auditor’s 2022 report highlighted that some reinstated officers were classified as a ‘Threat to Safety,’ and several faced new misconduct reports post-reinstatement. Additionally, a class-action lawsuit filed in 2021 by ten Black female officers alleged systemic racial and sexual discrimination within the department, spanning over two decades and involving multiple police chiefs.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
