    On December 7, 2021, Sergeant Chris Lewis, a nine-year veteran of the Elizabethtown Police Department, was involved in a fatal shooting of Gary McCormick, 34, of Elizabethtown. While assisting with a domestic violence investigation, Sgt. Lewis encountered McCormick at a residence. An altercation ensued, during which McCormick disarmed Sgt. Lewis of his taser and attempted to use it against him. Sgt. Lewis then discharged his firearm, striking McCormick, who was pronounced dead at the scene. In accordance with department policy, Sgt. Lewis was placed on administrative leave for two weeks. The investigation is ongoing.
