In August 2018, Detective Larry Guss Curtis, along with other officers, unlawfully entered an apartment without a warrant and allegedly assaulted a 21-year-old man. The man was charged with hindering prosecution and resisting arrest, while his girlfriend faced disorderly conduct charges; all charges were later dismissed. A federal lawsuit was filed against Curtis and the department, which appears to have been settled.
