In 2012, Lt. Matthew Desmond was charged with rape and indecent assault and battery following an encounter with a friend’s wife. Desmond maintained that the contact was consensual and was found not guilty by a jury after the case went to trial. In 2019, he was suspended for five days without pay and barred from private details for four weeks due to ‘lack of attention to detail and negligence’ in his work. Issues included losing his badge and police station access card twice, publishing incorrect information in police incident logs, and errors in criminal complaint documentation.
