    In 2004, Captain Steve Patterson was demoted to lieutenant due to repeated conflicts with supervisors and failure to comply with departmental regulations. Previous disciplinary actions included suspensions and reprimands for unprofessional behavior and poor judgment. Patterson appealed the demotion, but it was upheld by the Civil Service Commission and the Mississippi Court of Appeals.
