In March 2023, Officer Edward Williams filed an employment discrimination lawsuit against the Kansas City Police Department. He alleged that superiors instructed him to target minority residents during traffic stops to meet illegal ticket quotas and to respond only to calls from white neighborhoods. Williams claimed he faced retaliation, was labeled a ‘whistleblower,’ and was discriminated against due to his age and disability after raising concerns about these practices.
