Officer Stovall was arrested and charged with a first offense DUI on May 22, 2020, while off duty and in his personal vehicle. Following an internal investigation, he was found in violation of department policies and received a 14-day unpaid suspension. He was also removed from the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Offender Task Force and the BPD SWAT team, reassigned to patrol duties for at least two years, and placed on a two-year probationary period.
