In March 2023, Chief Bob Lausten was placed on administrative leave following a traffic incident in Mills County, Iowa, where he was reportedly clocked driving 100 mph on Highway 34. He self-reported the incident, and the investigation concluded with the La Vista City Council approving a 30-day suspension. Chief Lausten announced his retirement effective December 31, 2023.
