In November 2023, former officer Aaron Goodwin, along with his brother and sister-in-law, was involved in a racially motivated assault against Mamadou Dembele, a Black bank executive, outside a diner. Goodwin pleaded guilty to misdemeanor simple assault and received a suspended sentence. Dembele also filed a federal lawsuit alleging negligence, battery, and assault, citing injuries including a concussion and a torn Achilles tendon.
