In June 2023, Orlando Police Officer Alexander Shaouni was involved in a traffic incident that led to his arrest and subsequent suspension from duty. While driving a marked police SUV, Shaouni was clocked at 80 mph in a 45 mph zone in Oviedo, Florida. A Seminole County deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, Shaouni initially failed to comply, eventually stopping at the intersection of State Road 434 and Hammock Lane. During the stop, body camera footage captured Shaouni refusing to provide his driver’s license and questioning the deputy’s authority to pull him over, stating, “I’m going into work, my man. Why are you trying to pull me over as I’m going into work?” He then returned to his vehicle and drove away.fox35orlando.comyahoo.com+4clickorlando.com+4instagram.com+4wftv.com+1yahoo.com+1fox35orlando.com+3yahoo.com+3wftv.com+3

Following the incident, Shaouni was charged with third-degree felonies of fleeing and eluding law enforcement, as well as misdemeanors of resisting an officer without violence and reckless driving. He was relieved of duty pending the outcome of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigation and the Orlando Police Department’s Internal Affairs investigation.clickorlando.com+2wftv.com+2yahoo.com+2facebook.com+1clickorlando.com+1

In December 2023, Shaouni completed a pretrial diversion program, leading prosecutors to drop the charges against him. His attorney successfully petitioned for the expungement of his record related to this incident. As of March 2024, Shaouni has returned to active duty, working the evening shift in the North Patrol division. The Orlando Police Department’s Internal Affairs investigation remains ongoing to determine if any internal policies and procedures were violated during the incident.reddit.com+3fox35orlando.com+3wftv.com+3wftv.com+1yahoo.com+1

This case highlights the complexities surrounding law enforcement accountability and the processes involved in addressing alleged misconduct. It underscores the importance of thorough investigations and the mechanisms in place to ensure that officers adhere to professional standards and legal obligations.
