Former officer Jeremy Gibson was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison in August 2023 after pleading guilty to two felony charges related to excessive force and obstruction of justice. In May 2018, Gibson assaulted arrestee Emanuel ‘Manny’ Montero during a traffic stop for a missing headlight, causing facial fractures and broken ribs. Gibson then filed a false report omitting his use of force. He resigned from the Muncie Police Department in March 2022 and was ordered to pay restitution to Montero.
