Former detective Omar Abdullah was involved in a scheme from November 2019 to May 2020, where he conspired with a confidential informant to fabricate drug trafficking allegations against over a dozen Black men. The substances involved were repeatedly found to be fake. Abdullah was fired in October 2021 and pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in October 2023, receiving a sentence of 38 days in jail followed by 24 months of supervised probation. The city settled related lawsuits for a total of $2.35 million.
