On September 14, 2019, Officer N. Coffey pulled over Derrick Allen and issued a traffic citation for alleged violations of N.C. Gen. Stat. §§ 20-63(g) and 129(g). Allen claimed he had not committed any traffic violations and that Coffey fabricated the charges and harassed him. The citation was voluntarily dismissed on June 8, 2020. Allen filed a lawsuit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 alleging violations of his constitutional rights. ([casetext.com](https://casetext.com/case/allen-v-coffey?utm_source=openai))”
