Officer Ireland was terminated in 2019 for failing to perform patrol duties, similar to Officer Cronin. Investigations indicated that during a specified period, he failed to leave the station for 34 shifts and had limited patrolling during another 34 shifts. The Connecticut Labor Department Board of Mediation and Arbitration found that his termination lacked just cause due to procedural deficiencies in the investigation and ordered his reinstatement with full back pay. The town is appealing this ruling. ([newstimes.com](https://www.newstimes.com/news/article/middlebury-fired-police-officers-labor-dispute-20011460.php?utm_source=openai)
