In June 2019, Officer McClain responded to a domestic violence complaint at the apartment of former Bridgeport police officer Steven Figueroa. McClain and his partner, Officer Napoleone, failed to conduct a thorough investigation, leaving without further inquiry. This negligence allowed Figueroa to continue assaulting the victim.
