In August 2017, Officer Nicholas Strype was involved in the unlawful arrest of Metro-North conductor Thomas Moran at Grand Central Terminal. Moran sought assistance from MTA officers, including Strype, regarding a passenger issue. After a verbal exchange, Strype and other officers forcibly arrested Moran, leading to charges of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. These charges were dismissed in February 2018. In a subsequent lawsuit, a jury awarded Moran nearly $1 million in damages, finding that Strype and his colleagues had violated Moran’s rights through unlawful arrest and excessive force.
