In September 2018, Sgt. Jason Bellavance approached Jeremie Meli, who was involved in a verbal altercation outside a bar, and without announcing his presence, shoved Meli into a wall, causing him to lose consciousness. The city settled the lawsuit for $750,000 in June 2023. Bellavance was suspended after an internal investigation and left the department in 2020 following a $300,000 buyout.
