Create And Track Police Department History

Officer Michael Garza was involved in a controversial 2012 on-duty shooting that killed 29-year-old Alfred Aragon outside Aragon’s home. Internal investigators found Garza had been drinking on duty, was untruthful, and violated multiple departmental policies that night. He was fired in 2012, but in 2015 an arbitrator reinstated Garza, reducing his indefinite suspension to a 15-day suspension (time served). Aragon’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit, but it was dropped in 2017. Garza remains on the force in a desk assignment without public contact (the ‘rubber gun squad’) as a result of his disciplinary history.
