Despite an informal warning after the first incident, he continued to supervise her in January 2020. Additionally, in November 2019, he failed to properly restrain two maximum-security inmates, violating safety protocols. As a result, he was demoted to deputy and received a permanent $1.30 hourly pay reduction. An appeal led to the pay reduction being deemed excessive and disproportionate, but the demotion was upheld.
