Former Detective William Ledger was placed on paid administrative leave in August 2020 and was under criminal investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation. A 60-page report released in February 2022 detailed multiple instances of misconduct, including mishandling evidence, racial bias, alleged theft, and sharing confidential information with unauthorized individuals. The report also highlighted inappropriate text messages containing racist, sexist, and homophobic content. Due to these findings, the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office decided not to prosecute any future cases involving Ledger as a witness. Ledger resigned from the department on September 15, 2021.
