On August 11, 2023, Sgt. Eric Norris approached Myron Martize Woods, who was riding a motor scooter in the private parking lot of the Big Horn Motel. After Woods refused to speak with Norris, the officer returned, accused Woods of riding on a public road, and attempted to arrest him. Norris allegedly shoved Woods into a wall, tased him in the back, and handcuffed him. A crowd gathered, questioning the arrest, to which Norris reportedly threatened to arrest the entire group. Woods filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force and battery, seeking compensatory and punitive damages. The case is ongoing as of September 2024.
