In July 2005, Lt. Chris Dahmke was involved in a traffic stop of Mayor Dave Kinskey, which was perceived as politically motivated. Dahmke received a disciplinary action that included forfeiting 20 days of vacation and agreeing not to apply for or accept promotion until completing 40 days of training or until November 30. The incident raised concerns about the misuse of police authority for political purposes.
