In April 2021, Deputy Koster was involved in the detention of Thomas Riles, who had a serious medical condition requiring specialized equipment. Despite being aware of Riles’s condition and a nurse’s assessment that he needed hospital care, Koster delayed his release and failed to provide necessary medical attention. This led to a lawsuit alleging deliberate indifference to Riles’s medical needs. The court denied summary judgment for Koster, allowing the claim to proceed.
