In 2015, Deputy Eugene Watlington was involved in an arrest where he used excessive force by repeatedly kicking a suspect who was already subdued. The incident was captured on a Mayflower police officer’s body camera. Watlington was subsequently fired in July 2015 for his actions. In March 2017, he was found guilty of third-degree battery, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.
