In 2009, Deputy David Harrell was terminated from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office following an internal investigation that found him uncooperative and deceptive, violating multiple department policies. Harrell alleged that his termination was in retaliation for complaints about racial discrimination within the department. He filed a lawsuit against Sheriff Gerald Robinson and other officials, claiming retaliation and discrimination. The case was dismissed at summary judgment in 2017.
