In January 2024, Deputy Jason Cole was involved in an incident where he struck a handcuffed suspect multiple times during an arrest. The suspect had headbutted Cole, leading to the use of force. Cole was terminated from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office for violating the department’s use of force policy. A special prosecutor declined to file criminal charges, stating there was no evidence of a crime. The Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training voted against decertifying Cole, allowing him to continue working in law enforcement.
