Sheriff Jimmy Stephens was arrested on December 3, 2022, during a traffic stop where drugs and pills were found in his vehicle. He pleaded guilty to felony possession of a controlled substance and resigned from his position effective October 25, 2023. Stephens received a sentence of six years suspended imposition of sentence, a $10,000 fine, and additional court costs and fees. As a convicted felon, he is no longer qualified to serve as an elected official in Arkansas.
