In February 2015, Sheriff Boyd Hicks was sued for allegedly entering a 69-year-old man’s home without a search warrant and seizing a handgun. The lawsuit claimed this action violated the man’s constitutional rights against unwarranted search and seizure. The gun was returned after five days. In 2016, Sheriff Hicks was cleared of any wrongdoing in this case.
