    Deputy Ruth Jones is among the defendants in a February 2024 civil rights lawsuit alleging excessive force against Malia Ashad. Following an assault on Ashad in a courtroom in August 2022, she was taken to a hospital. While handcuffed, Jones allegedly participated in the use of excessive force, including physical assaults that led to Ashad’s injuries. The lawsuit claims Jones’s actions were unconstitutional and resulted in both physical and emotional trauma for Ashad.
