In July 2023, Deputy Timothy Ball was arrested for being an addict in possession of a firearm. A search of his Sonora home revealed several firearms and evidence of opioid addiction. Ball has a history of alcohol and opiate abuse and had recently relapsed. He was booked into the Dambacher Detention Center on the charge. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office placed him on administrative leave and is conducting an administrative investigation, while Tuolumne County officials are conducting a criminal investigation.
