In February 2023, Deputy Eric Schmidt was involved in a workplace incident that led to a battery charge filed against him in September 2023. In November 2023, the Fresno County Superior Court ordered Schmidt to complete a 12-week anger management course. If he successfully completes the course, the battery charge will be dropped; otherwise, the case will proceed to trial. Schmidt has been with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office since 1997 and has served as the president of the Fresno Deputy Sheriff’s Association since 2008.
