In 2015, inmate Patrick Hoyt was taken to an area of the jail without surveillance cameras, where deputies smashed his head against a wall, resulting in a swollen black eye. Other inmates reported hearing his screams. An internal investigation recommended firing two deputies involved, but Sheriff Scott Jones opted for lengthy suspensions instead. One of these deputies was later involved in another excessive force incident against inmate Roshawn Jackson, who was handcuffed and defenseless during the assault.
