In 2020, Deputy Vega was involved in an incident where he used his firearm inappropriately during a traffic stop involving multiple individuals suspected to be armed gang members. The Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review and Oversight (IOLERO) found that Vega’s actions were inappropriate and recommended his termination. However, Vega was disciplined but not terminated. In February 2023, Vega conducted another traffic stop, and his behavior was noted to be more controlled compared to the 2020 incident.
