Dominick Gonzales – Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office

In 1998, detention officer Dominick Gonzales was convicted and imprisoned for sexually assaulting a female inmate. Prior to this, in 1997, Gonzales had entered the female dormitory and exposed himself to inmates, and made inappropriate comments over the intercom. Despite these incidents, he was only demoted and placed on probation, which did not prevent further misconduct. These events underscored systemic issues within the Huerfano County Jail, including inadequate supervision and enforcement of policies by Sheriff John Salazar.
