On February 15, 2018, Sgt. Edward Francis Oxley engaged in a high-speed chase and shootout with a suspect, resulting in the suspect’s death. While the fatal use of force was deemed justified, Oxley was fired in September 2018 after an internal investigation concluded he violated department policies, including shooting at or from a moving vehicle and using unapproved ammunition. In September 2020, he was charged with two counts of illegally discharging a firearm, with a trial set for April 2021.
