Former Ouray Police Chief Jeff Wood was terminated in June 2024 following two internal affairs investigations. Allegations included poor work performance, violations of state law, and inappropriate behavior. Specific incidents involved a ‘cavalier manner’ toward a case involving an elementary school janitor accused of taking inappropriate photos of children, unprofessional conduct toward women, and making disparaging remarks about the Black Lives Matter movement. Wood was also accused of not wearing body-worn cameras as required by law and placing a sexually explicit sticker on his truck. In November 2024, Wood filed a lawsuit against the city, alleging violations of his 14th Amendment right to due process.
