In February 2019, Officer Sam Dickey remained in the hospital room during an inmate’s childbirth, violating her right to privacy. This led to a lawsuit resulting in a $350,000 settlement in January 2025. Sheriff Kevin Joyce investigated the incident and terminated Dickey for violating state law and county policy; however, Dickey was later reinstated following a union grievance.
