In April 2022, Sheriff Gahler was sued by Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh for allegedly interfering with the investigation into the fatal shooting of John Fauver by sheriff’s deputies. The Attorney General’s Office claimed that Sheriff Gahler refused to provide physical and electronic evidence to the Independent Investigation Unit, violating state law. A judge ruled against Sheriff Gahler, ordering the release of the body camera footage and other evidence. This legal action highlighted concerns about transparency and accountability within the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
