In November 1998, Deputy First Class Mark Porter was involved in an incident where he was sent to interview Mr. VanDevander at the Detention Center but was unable to locate him. This incident was part of a series of events leading to Mr. VanDevander’s termination, which was later contested and resulted in a court ruling that reversed the termination and ordered reinstatement. The case highlighted issues within the department’s handling of internal investigations and disciplinary actions.
