In April 2014, Sheriff Lou Falgout was sued by Chris and Larry Bentley over a policy regarding the euthanization of animals. The lawsuit stemmed from an incident where Undersheriff David Larson, under Falgout’s administration, shot and killed the Bentleys’ horse without proper procedures. The court found that the policy violated the Bentleys’ constitutional rights, leading to a judgment against the Sheriff’s Office.
