In 2014, Sergeant Sheria Maynard filed a lawsuit against Sheriff Gregory Farley, alleging gender discrimination and retaliation. Maynard claimed that Farley denied her the opportunity to work evening shifts and passed her over for a promotion to Lieutenant in favor of a less qualified male officer. She also alleged that after complaining about the discrimination, she received a letter of reprimand and a lower performance evaluation, which she attributed to retaliation. The lawsuit highlighted concerns about discriminatory practices and retaliatory behavior within the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.
