In 2016, Detective Stephen Parker engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a victim during the investigation and trial of former Orcas High School teacher Gerald Grellet-Tinner, who was charged with sexual misconduct. Parker’s actions led to the dismissal of Grellet-Tinner’s conviction. Parker resigned and moved to Florida without facing criminal charges. In 2019, the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission revoked his officer certification for official misconduct and making false statements. This revocation bars him from serving as an officer in Washington for five years, after which he may petition for reinstatement if no further misconduct has occurred.
