    Appointed sheriff in May 2014, Michael Cude faced allegations of creating a hostile work environment and employee harassment. In July 2014, he fired secretary Sue Christiansen for allegedly exceeding her approved leave, amid claims that she and other female employees felt threatened by him. Cude denied these allegations, stating he was ‘just trying to do my job.’ In September 2014, after meeting with county commissioners, he resigned from his position, declining a severance package that included two months’ pay and a waiver of liability.
