In the 2012 case of Dixon v. Richer, the Tenth Circuit Court addressed allegations of excessive force by San Juan County Sheriff’s deputies. The plaintiffs, Willie and Hyon Dixon, claimed that during a traffic stop, deputies kicked, struck with a flashlight, choked, and beat Willie Dixon after he had been frisked and was not making aggressive moves. The court found that, under the Dixons’ version of the facts, the alleged conduct was not objectively reasonable under the Fourth Amendment.
