In 2019, Corporal Charles Cieply violated the Weber County Human Resources Nepotism Policy by supervising his wife, a corrections assistant, on multiple occasions. Despite prior informal warnings, he continued these violations, leading to his demotion to deputy and a temporary pay reduction. The Administrative Law Judge found the discipline excessive and inconsistent, resulting in the restoration of his pay rate but upholding the demotion. Additionally, in November 2019, Cieply failed to properly restrain two maximum-security inmates, violating safety protocols.
